What Is Big Green?

You hear lots of dire predictions these days -- the planet is burning, the seas are rising, and so on. But what is the real purpose of all this doom and gloom? Is it to protect the environment? Or is there a different motive? Rogan O’Handley, aka DC Draino, gets to the bottom of these questions in this important video.

You've heard a lot about Big Oil, Big Pharma, Big Tech, and all the other big bad players out there.
I want to talk to you about the biggest, baddest one of them all.
This Goliath doesn't deal in billions. It deals in trillions.
I'm talking about… Big Green.
Yes, the Environmental Movement.
It's the richest, most powerful "Big" in the world right now.
Nothing else even comes close.
Until we see it for what is and reign it in, it's going to get even bigger.
And as is usually the case, bigger is not always better.
You see, Big Green wants to take over your life.
It has to.
This makes perfect sense.
Big Green, after all, intends to save the planet from oblivion.
Your freedom would seem to be a small price to pay.
To accomplish its mission Big Green needs two things:
Money. And power.
It already has a lot of both.
But it's hungry for much more.
Who do we mean when we say Big Green?
We mean the major organizations that set the agenda for the movement. This would include, among dozens:
Nature Conservancy.
Sierra Club.
World Wildlife Fund.
And, of course, the politicians, bureaucrats, corporations, and media outlets who support and promote their agenda.
Before we get any deeper into this, let's stipulate a few things.
The climate is changing.
It appears, though we can't be sure, to be slowly warming.
If it continues to warm, it could cause serious environmental problems sometime in the distant future.
Industrialization probably plays a role in this warming process.
Reasonable people should be able to agree on this.
Democrat leader Nancy Pelosi and Republican leader Newt Gingrich actually once sat down together and said as much in a public service ad they made in the 1990s.
But Big Green has no interest in being reasonable.
Reasonable doesn't get you money.
Reasonable doesn't get you power.
So, let's talk about the money.
Greenpeace, Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, and Sierra Club all have financial assets in the $100 to $300 million-dollar range.
Name a Fortune 500 company and chances are they're writing big checks to Big Green.

Banking giant, Citigroup, for example, has committed $100 billion to "combat climate change."
But the real money is at the government level. In 2009 the Obama Administration directed more than $110 billion to be spent on renewable energy "investments" under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act alone. What the taxpayer got for this investment other than long-forgotten $500 million-dollar boondoggles-like Solyndra-is hard to say.
According to the best economic models, the Paris Climate Accord will cost the world $1 to 2 trillion every year.
Total cost for The Green New Deal $52 trillion-minimum.
But money is only a means to an end.
The end is power.
The power to transform society into what they think it should be.
That's what this is really about.
Here's how Saikat Chakrabarti, the architect of the Green New Deal described it to the Washington Post: "…it wasn't originally a climate thing at all…we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing."
Maybe you like all this.
That's fine.
But don't pretend it's about protecting the environment. Chakrabarti was being honest. You should be, too. It's about transferring more and more power to the government-at every level: federal, state, local.
And the way to get the power is to gin up scary scenarios.
The planet is burning. The seas are rising. We're all going to be dead soon unless we listen to those masters of disaster, Al Gore, Bill McKibben, and Greta Thunberg.
And what have all their horror stories led to?

its not just about us. this is the problem with so many humans. theyre so self centered. they dont think about what would happen to animals, or plants, and how that can also effect them. more wildfires and floods and shit means more animals dying or going extinct. we wont have as much food, plants could die, air would be bad, a ton of shit could happen. it may not kill us but it would lower quality of life for everyone

For those of you who are new to PragerU, please read this comment: the video you just watched probably sounded very believable because it’s designed that way. However, if you look into the finances of PragerU, they get paid lots of money by oil and fracking companies to make this content for you to watch. This video is actually designed by big oil, to make you scared of environmental improvements which the world actually needs. Now, many of the things said in this video are true. Going green is expensive, but not because “big green” is trying to get rich. It’s because politicians have done a terrible job educating themselves on where the money needs to be spent so they spend it wastefully. Don’t fall for big oil’s propaganda please

Man I can't stand it when u people make again videos about climate change and in general the subject... U make is on the more conservative side (not looking to destroy the economy for the environment..) Crazy.... Yeah just like Denis says... True environmentalists are in favor of nuclear... And that's something I'm very much for... And while it is true that the far left often goes insane and radical willing to destroy the economy... Just stay away from this subject Because you're making us sound insane... I've already seen too many constantly new videos about climate change here... Enough pragueru.... Just rnought...

@donotlike 4 anonymus "And yet Exxon is investing heavily in renewables " They are literally funding climate change denialist campaigns, organizations and ads to pursue their goals. They know about global warming but use it for their own benefit - they are building oil rigs in the north, on the beaches etc. If something is cheap and effective - people will use it thus there can't be a free-market-induced change on that matter, sorry chief.

@Neo Ksenzu hhh u people... And yet Exxon is investing heavily in renewables U people simply don't get it... Oil companies's job is to provide energy they will take the path of least resistance and will always have to stay competitive... Free market Solutions are a thing... U do get that... I gave u the example of cabin capture which has the potential of recycling fuels..... There are also such things as for example solar roadways (Not exactly practical but...) The rich sure love virtue signaling and having cool green, LED parking loat's is nice) How about solar paint... Would u not like the idea of you're own house producing electricity for you! (Yet not very practical but is getting there...) There are also lots of things such as nuclear energy which is clean and amazing...... But a massive investment that pays off really really well in the long term But takes a long while to get a return on investment.... And with s ton of rational caution but mostly irrational fear Beurocrats sure make it difficult for private plants to raise.... And sure we need some red tape here but we have way too many at the moment.... And yet the market innovates Also u do realize the rich also do not want to destroy this planet... This mentality that they could just live in dome's/something like that.... Is insane
Neo Ksenzu
Neo Ksenzu 5 өдрийн өмнө
@donotlike 4 anonymus Not really, free market won't fix environment in time. It would probably do it after it's too late. Best example is this video - funded by oil barons Wilks Brothers trying to drive us away from idea of saving the planet. Exxon also did this.

@Neo Ksenzu in the long term we can have good free market solutions such as carbon capture for example... I can understand some environmental protections I mean.... But nothing too radical such as the green new deal It is not worth to destroy the economy today to keep the planet safe for the future... It's a difficult balance...... Also I don't think it's the best I sea to give a bloated corrupt inefficient government more power and control over the economy The free market... Can help...........

Actually about the economy - while it may draw some setbacks it would be pretty beneficial in a long term. According to few-years old study if ice continues to melt at the same rate as it does now then we would pay costs in tens of trillions of dollars

@DoctorHero Okay, so it's infringing on people's right to make a living? Let's say all carbon emissions were prohibited, not just regulated, prohibited, which is unrealistic and no one would ever try to legislate that. What prevents those workers from making a living working anywhere else? Or perhaps it's because everyone should be able to work for the job they want or trained for. I'm sure there's some professional assassins should we legalise that line of work? The idea that environmentalism infringes on human rights is preposterous. The only thing it infringes on is oil execs' offshore bank accounts.

Truth is not measured by the amount of benefit to the speaker. Big oil financed this video. So what? Does this, somehow, absolve you from considering it? Would it be more truthful if it came from the local carrot farmers? What about your neighbor? Consider this: If the oil industry does nothing, if they say nothing, they will still be in business for the foreseeable future. Almost everything requires petrochemicals. If the "green" industry is proven to be horse crap, they are absolutely worthless. They produce nothing of value. So, who has a greater motivation to stretch the truth? Also, with big oil's money, you'd think they'd have way more influence over policy. Do you really think the bureaucrats and politicians involved with the alphabet soup of international and local organizations are saintly warriors for the greater good? Who are the members of the IPCC, and what would the be doing without the taxpayer dollars? Just think about it. No real problem has ever been solved by government edicts or action. This problem, if there is one, won't be either.

@007kingifrit Why? If oil is so profitable and their research shows there's no harm to the environment, why change? My guess, and it's only a guess, is for public relations and appeasement of legislators. Not to mention having a foothold in the "green" energy market. I know PG&E, out in CA, is forced to invest in renewable energies, and its putting them in the crapper. I would imagine oil companies are feeling pressure on a similar level. They invest 20% in the hopes that legislation to invest 50% doesn't doesn't find support. Either way, they find themselves over a barrel. They have to pay something.

The republican party is a death cult, and propaganda arms like Prager are funded to give the "BIG" whatever's the most influence on politics and unironically help them maintain and gain power and wealth exactly like what Prager is claiming "big green" is doing. Super projections like this show how conservative positions like those showcased in Prager videos are, in reality, very unreasonable and harmful for society in the long term. It's not like the guy in the video will be alive when the world burns, and that's why for many people, immediate consequences become more important, like making a quick buck by pushing corporate concerns from Big Oil (big green is the most hilarious terms I've seen from conservatives lately). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PragerU#Funding

The Climate will change, there is nothing we can do to stop it from evolving organically. Environmental impact from humans is only a tiny part of that reality. Climate Scientists are paid by politicians to produce reports that support the narrative of climate crisis, which does increase revenue for the government because they tax emissions, as if paying for the emissions produced makes them somehow not harmful. China is nowhere near the goal for emissions, yet Climate Activists never dare attack the CCP or Indian Government for their massive pollution. They only attack western countries, this has to change, but it seems even Thunberg is not immune to Politicizing her climate message... She supports Antifa which is highly political, so does AOC, and both are pushing for a Marxist ideology and both use climate to further that ideology, calling it Climate activism just sounds better and it’s easy to get people to agree with their politics if they are “necessary” to save the planet.

adding 36 billion tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere annually is far from "organic evolution" and if you think that they are paying massive amounts to scientists around the globe, just so countries have an excuse to tax carbon emissions, instead of just raising other taxes and cutting spending on "paid scientists", you may want to rethink your conspiracy theory.

Taking better care of our land, sea, air, water, and wildlife is good and it natters to the well being of the people it impacts. Real people living with the consequences see on a personal level. Rather than demonizing the idea, figure out how to take the power and greed out of it, but offer real and better solutions to our concerns. There is real problems with the way energy and technology producers treat our environment and animals. We have to watch and live with that pain on a human level. So appeal to that. Start with not letting greed or politics be a part of fixing our flaws. But we still meed to fix the way we do things. In a sane way. And saying things are better than ever, shows that giving attention to these things, is helping.

Holland didn't start under water and then have to build dams to stop sea level rise, they put a dam around a swamp and then drained it and built a city. Same with new orleans. I live in an area that has ports that are over 100 years old that still have the same sea level as when they were built, there are native structures/areas that are at least 200-400 years old and still dry land.. If any of the climate hucksters were accurate I should be at least 10 feet underwater right now, most tropical islands should be covered and any coastal cities submerged.

@delicheres, Of course it ain't beneficial for many. For example, The Maldives is an island nation in the Indian Ocean. The highest point in the country is only two feet above sea level, and 80% of the country’s land is less than three feet below sea level. A modest increase in sea levels could submerge the entire country. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published a report noting that sea levels could rise as much as 100 centimeters by the year 2100, and that a 90 centimeter rise would cover 85% of Malè, the capital city/island of the Maldives.

Boo/hiss, Big Green. No power for you. No money for you. // Hooray for the little guy who greens up his life on a budget without being forced by anyone in Leftist colors. // P.S: Rogan, yes, windmills kill a million, but buildings kill 100M birds every year just from the glass, which birds can't see. Me? I think a nice mix of solar, geothermal, wind, and nuclear is a good mix. Solar and wind for niche electrical generation, nuclear for base electrical power, and geothermal for heat.

Ok so this is so much more misleading than it seems. I do not give a shit about politics and they should really stay out of environmental stuff tbh. First off, not all environmental organizations that were brought up in this vid go towards global warming. For example the nature conservancy buys land to protect wildlife and ecosystems within it. While global warming is a hefty issue it is honestly not some of the more serious issues on the horizon. (Deforestation, pollution of the ocean, etc). Parts of the world are seriously burning up as well. CA has had record forest fires every year. The main reason is only partly due to global warming, but it is mainly that the woodlands are not kept. Tons and tons of fuel are built up because we suppress the natural burning patterns. The reason why we have trouble fixing this problem is mainly due to funding. For clean energy sources, yes they are more expensive right now. I do not know much about taxes and all that junk so I’m not going to pretend I do, but these renewable energy sources are important for our future, and when we make the switch from natural gas and oil to renewable it will be less cheaper than it currently is. Yea wind turbines kill bunches of birds but windows kill heaps more. And if you care about endangered species, that’s exactly what most of “big green” is out to protect. Also, I only actually know much about nature conservancy and the fact it’s deemed bad in this video is kinda wacky
Buelmore 11 өдрийн өмнө
ALSO building “taller sea walls” would t exactly be a great solution. The Netherlands is far, far smaller and so it has much less coastline than us. It would also cost much more than simply preventing the rise. Drip irrigation is amazing but it’s also very expensive, which is why it’s rarely used. Desalination is the same, and while better technologies for these areas are being developed they are being developed by “big green”, so it’s kind of contradictory to the point of this video. Nuclear power is also pretty good, but similarly to coal it is non renewable, so it is more of a bandaid to the issue. Developing better clean energy sources is the best solution in my opinion.

@Harvey Holmes All you did was disprove your own original post. At first, you seemed to think that they have an infinite water supply because they lived on the coast. Now you are changing your view on that. As of right now, Israel has enough fresh water to provide them with all they need. The water shortage that they are going to have comes from growth. Nothing in this world is static. I am sure Israel will be able to fix their water needs.
Harvey Holmes
Harvey Holmes 5 өдрийн өмнө
All of this is actually pointless because after a couple minutes research it turns out Israel has a massive water shortage which the ministry for foreign affairs says is developing into a crisis. So it turns out Israel don’t even have more water than they need despite the Mediterranean, Jordan river and lake Kinneret all being sources for them

@Weaponized Pizza anything is theoretically possible, that does not mean it is practical or even possible. I would submit to you that ocean freighters can never be electric, they could be nuclear. The limitations of wind and solar, as practical sources of providing sufficient energy, is inherent in their requirements. Skipping over the manufacturing, which requires high temp fire from fossil fuels, producing carbon, which is what everybody is all up in arms about. CT would have to cover 7% of its surface area in solar panels, to provide for its current electric needs. I am not even going to attempt to calculate what the electrical needs would be if all heating and cooking was switched to electric, and that does not even begin to take into account electrical needs if all vehicles are electric. New Jersey would cover 11% of its surface area for sufficient solar panels, and that is before addressing the afore mentioned problems. Natural gas being used around 90% of the time in heating. In these places. And DC only encompasses half of the area required for the amount of electricity, it uses. The limitations on wind is also a problem. As they require about half the space for the same amount of energy production. Plus wind turbines have to be positioned in a location where they will constantly have high speed winds, otherwise they are not producing sufficient energy.

@Trevor Kroemer mining and ocean transport is probably one of the most difficult hurdles to a completely environmentally friendly society. While cargo freighters can theoretically run on purely electrical engines it's just not feasible without much smaller, and much cheaper batteries. Mining, however, does have a solution that's as simple as it is difficult, and that is to look up. There are many asteroids in space filled with lots of valuable metals, and they don't have an ecosystem to disrupt. It would be a huge undertaking, but a move to offworld mining would be massively beneficial.
Trevor Kroemer
Trevor Kroemer 17 цагийн өмнө
@Weaponized Pizza learn about the equipment required for mining and ocean transport. They cannot be electrically based. It is not just spinning a few wheels on a small vehicle. How long can a car operate, continuously, just on renewable sources? Though, I am not saying I would not like to see improvements of anything. Solar requires rare earth minerals. Those come from China. Manufacturing of metals require fuel. Learn about it. It is not circular, because of limitations and requirements. I never said to not utilize "green", but it is not able to provide for even most of the energy needs.
Weaponized Pizza
Weaponized Pizza Өдрийн өмнө
@Trevor Kroemer I'll be honest I focused on wind turbines because it's the simplest one. While solar panels are made almost entirely of silicon the process of actually turning silicon into solar cells is a complicated process and I don't have an engineering or science degree. I can't pronounce Czochralski method nevermind tell you how or why it works. Though I don't need to in order to tell you the problem with your argument, and the problem is it goes in a circle. Why don't we use renewable power? Because we use fossil fuels for our mining and transportation vehicles. Why don't we use electric engines for those? Because electric engines still use power from coal and oil-based power plants. It's not a catch 22, fixing one would solve the other.

@Weaponized Pizza @Weaponized Pizza great, thanks for at least partially doing some research. Now where does the steel, fiberglass, and iron come from? How is it mined, manufactured, and transported? These questions are a bit tricky as they all require multiple materials. But, more importantly is, what is required in the mining, manufacturing, and transportation processes. Learn about the limitations of wind turbines, and my comment was about "green", which includes solar. As solar and wind are the main technologies pushed.

There has been dramatic increase in the average temperature and drastic decrease in ice-cover globally. Plus, the wildfires often happen in California and Australia but every year humanity breaking records with wildfires, frequency of tropical storms, droughts and locust swarms. It's as if nature is trying to warn us we're heading into environmental catastrophe. 97% of the world's top scientists have agreed that human activity is accelerating climate change, but PragerU is downplaying it because the founder is linked to the Koch brothers who run the most corrupt oil and gas companies, so corrupt even some Republicans don't want to associate with them. This is what happens when capitalism goes uncontrolled; it prioritizes short-term profit over long-term sustainability, both economic and environmental.

You absolute Brainlet, the Paris Climate accord is self-regulatory. Countries can make up their own goals that they want to reach, if it costs america so much, it's not because "Big Green" forced them to pay, its because your countries leaders - for once in their lives - showed some backbone and tried to save the planet and its life, or at least buy us some time.

No, the climate IS changing, and it WILL have real-life repercussions, and not "somewhere in the distant future", but actually right now. The absolute ABSOLUTE consensus is that humans are causing the climate to change and the earth to heat up. @Trevor Kroemer The time for new nuclear may have passed, but it should be an option with some less regulation than now. The limitations you mention will be countered once renewables become cheap enough. Unlike socialism, they become more viable over time. Scientific consensus never went for global cooling over warming, since then anthropogenic climate change has become more clear.
Trevor Kroemer
Trevor Kroemer 4 өдрийн өмнө
@Jonatan D not with politics the way they are going. Nuclear is the only viable option for the consumption needs. Which we could have done, along time ago, yet they are pushing other "renewable" sources, which are not as productive as nuclear and create problems and have limitations, as I pointed out which you ignored. Climate change is not what they propogate. Did you miss the ice age that was imminent in the 70's? Or all the other predictions, since, that have been completely wrong. At what point will they actually get something right. Stop accepting their modeling as representative of reality. Their modeling is constantly proven wrong. Your arguement sounds just like the argument for socialism. All the examples of failure did not implement it properly, but we will get it right.
Jonatan D
Jonatan D 4 өдрийн өмнө
@Trevor Kroemer Germany and California did regressive things, like closing down nuclear plants and forcing more renewables than they can handle. Promoting the transition has to be done in moderation, but it is necessary due to climate change. Once renewables + storage is cheaper than other options, 100% clean generation will be possible.
Trevor Kroemer
Trevor Kroemer 4 өдрийн өмнө
@Jonatan D why do you think demand is growing "because it is cheaper"? Look at Germany's expansion into green, and what they have to do to supply the necessary energy needs of the country. Look at California, which has really pushed green. Rolling blackouts, electrical infrastructure that is causing wildfires and not getting updated/maintained, costs averaging 19 cents per kwh.
Jonatan D
