Literally every product is made under child labor in capitalism as developed countries profit of underdeveloped countries with less work regulations for profit. What an invalid argument.

While I agree with prager that unions are a necessary part of labor, I am disappointed to see how misleading the title is. Green tech isn't alone in it's benefit from child labor, as they said in the video rare earth minerals are. Whatever device you're watching this on is only possible due to the labor of children in horrid work conditions. This is due to companies trying to make as much as possible from their product. Under capitalism, profit outweighs humanity. There's a reason Apple was the first trillion dollar company. Disappointed with how irresponsible pragerU continues to be.

Although this video is targeted at making green energy an enemy. I would implore you take this time to truly reflect on what this message is saying. It's hard in America to live a life where you don't benefit from some kind of inhumane human rights behavior. We've all benefited from it. Whether you are buying electronics or clothes, chocolate or other things. You've probably supported child slavery and/or some form of inhumane labor through your purchases. Not sure why PragerU is specifically attacking Green energy over this (no, I actually do, it's propaganda), and not also attacking the countless other industries involved in this kind of labor. I don't think anyone wants to own a product that was produced by child slavery. It's why we have things like human rights and regulations over here. Unfortunately companies can outsource. And it's a whole lot more than green energy that is outsourcing. The deregulation principles of republicans will never solve this issue.

Sure, but you should also be critical of all other child labour, excessive hours and unsafe work practices around the world. Do you use batteries for a toy or TV remote or phone or whatever else? Where does that come from? Seems hypocritical to say no to one product while accepting another product even though it is plagued with the same ethical problems.

I don't think renewables are the main blame. Sure solar panels have a disadvantage of needing a lot of rare metals from nation like the DRC. But for other renewable sources like wind, water and solar they are in need for rare metals for their generators. Fossil fuel powerplants need also these rare metals. It's not just about green energy. Its more about the needs that society has for electricity and batteries.

So what would you say about the global warming ( climate change ) effects like increasing the numbers of natural disasters such as floods, storms and droughts??? That puts mostly developing countries in risk and make many people refugees and homeless That's already happening Africa and middle eastern countries are facing huge droughts and water shortage Even US states like Californian, Arizona and Utah are facing droughts and water shortage So you simply deny these effects You only care about money why you're trying hard to make propaganda against clean energy sources Why don't U say anything about fast fashion brands such as Zara or HM that use child labor and cheap labor in developing countries and make the environment of those poor countries polluted If you really care about children

Yes, I knew this, and sadly I think you are right (for once). I think the climate debate is much more nuanced and complicated than people already make it out to be. Electric cars can surely do some good when they run on green energy, but not nearly as much as the businesses make it out to be. The recourses required to make these batteries are rare and hard to find and cost lots of recourses to produce and also causes a significant amount of greenhouse gases as a result. In general, I think many people are quite hypocritical when it comes to the climate debate, thinking that they help the environment by buying fancy Teslas and special organic foods and such. Everything you buy has an environmental cost in both recourses and greenhouse gases. Buying all your family members cotton bags to do groceries may seem environmentally friendly, but in reality, you would have to reuse one cotton bag 5000 to 20000 times in order to have an equivalent environmental impact to using this amount of plastic bags. I think the issue lies more with consumerism and the idea of '''more stuff makes you happier'' that is hurting the environment. Most companies are just advertising themselves as green in order to sell shit. If you REALLY want to have an impact on the environment, just stick to buying what you need. Have a diesel car that runs fine? Keep driving it until it breaks. Has one of your appliances broken today? Consider fixing it or ask someone to fix it for you because most of the time fixing your electronics can be as easy as removing some dust on the inside. As for new cars, I think maybe hydrogen engines may have a future. Its fuel can literally be extracted from water and it emits only water through its exhaust too. It won't have to rely on exorbitant materials coming from mines and quarries that make use of child and slave labour or other inhumane practices. One thing is for sure though, we can't let this be an excuse not to combat climate change. It is a real threat whether you like it or not and in order to conserve our society and nature action needs to be taken. In case you want to help just a slight bit, consider eating less meat. No need to vegan or whatever but just eating one less steak every week or so already helps a lot.

Also there is rare earth's in most countries but they are always contaminated by thorium which is radioactive so governments regulate the mining of them so its not profitable to mine them, or straight up ban the mining of them. Thorium isn't toxic to you and is barely radioactive so its just fear driving it all.

Even if they eliminated Child Labor, the immense MINING projects required for modern Batteries to power the planet's current needs would make the entire Coal & Shale Mining operations look like a child's sandbox in comparison. The amount of required heavy equipment used for mining, extraction processing, refining, concentrating and smelting and the energy (mostly diesel) required to produce the amounts of materials to supply the entire world is mind boggling. Close to 1/7th of Petroleum production EVERY YEAR would be needed just to get the raw materials to the Battery Manufacturers.. 😲 Batteries don't last forever and today, only small amounts(~ 3% of materials) can recycled for new Battery manufacturing ... ...and because batteries do have a lifespan, 20% needs replaced in 4 years, 40% in 5 years, 80% in 6 years 99% in 7 years... meaning after 7 years and each year after 100% of 7+ year old batteries will need replacing... and Battery production will increase every year after needing more materials which require more energy for mining, extraction, refining, processing, smelting, etc .. ...and that doesn't even touch the Billions of tons & gallons of required chemicals needs for leaching and etching..etc.. There is NO FREE LUNCH

Child labor is very common in undeveloped parts of the world. And it was common worldwide just a couple hundred years ago. In many undeveloped parts of the world, people are extremely empoverished and hungry. The whole family has to work just to put food on the table. There's no school to go to even if children don't work. I'm not defending child labor, but it's naive to think making batteries causes child labor, or stopping making batteries would free the children.

I tried pointing these facts out to my ex-wife who is all in on the "green new deal" and asked her if she knew any of these things. She said she'd heard some of it but that she'd also read that it's a bunch of lies told to discourage people from green energy and those "studies" are funded by the oil and gas industry. They're not. But you can't tell her that. And much of it isn't from studies. It's from the frickin' UN which Lefties just LOVE. It all comes down to some people will only believe "facts" that agree with their world view rather than adjust their world view to conform to the facts whatever they may be. Democrats seem to have perfected doublethink as described by George Orwell where you believe two completely diametrically opposed ideas that contradict each other at the same time. That takes some pretty high level mental gymnastics. And most Leftists seem to be able to do this whereas most normal people do not. We rightly understand that of two compatible and contradictory ideas only one of them can be true. So, we pick the one that most closely conforms to reality. Like Joe Biden said, "we choose truth over facts". Yep, that about sums up Leftist "logic".

Thank you PragerU, I have been trying to explain this to people for years. Going Green is a very deceptive catch phrase, people need to know the truth about the consequences of shifting major markets to things like Electric Cars. Lithium batteries are toxic from beginning to end. The manufacturing processes destroy eco systems and poison them thanks to the toxic levels of lithium required to produce a battery. An electric vehicle uses hundreds if not thousands of batteries per car, which have to be changed out every few years to maintain your driving distance capabilities. We can't reuse bad battery cells and there is no way to safely recycle them to reuse the raw materials. That means that they all end up in dumps at some point, further contaminating more eco systems with toxic levels of lithium and other materials that will have seriously adverse effects on ALL the wild life in those areas. We can't just trade one bad thing for another that would, in the long term, be far more detrimental to life on this planet. Plastics are already destroying oceanic habitats around the world, as well as filling up our dumps at record pace. The sad truth about recycling is only about 65% of all recyclables actually make it to a recycling plant. The rest is redirected towards landfills. Our obsession with electronics has lead to such an extreme level of over manufacturing that we now have an excess of 100x more electronic devices on this planet than we have actual people, that means more lithium batteries for landfills, more toxic production processes that destroy habitats and eco systems, and an overuse and abuse of our planetary resources for the sake of profit to a very few super wealthy. Let that sink in for a minute. We have some serious conversations that need to be had world wide and the Corporations that have been doing all this over manufacturing and pillaging of resources and habitats need to be held responsible for the destruction they have caused to life, land and environment, around the world.
